System Information is a built-in application on every Mac that provides you with detailed information about the hardware and software configuration of your machine. In this article, we’ll show you how to use System Information to troubleshoot issues with your computer, as well as how to find information that can be helpful when purchasing new hardware or software.

ACCESSING SYSTEM INFORMATION

There are two ways to access System Information on your Mac. The first is through the “About This Mac” menu. To do this, click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen and select “About This Mac.” Alternatively, you can access System Information by opening the Utilities folder in your Applications folder and double-clicking on the “System Information” application. When you first open System Information, you’ll see a summary of your Mac’s hardware and software configurations. This summary includes information about your Mac’s processor, memory, startup disk, and display. You can also find your Mac’s serial number, model identifier, and system version here.

To view more detailed information about a particular category, click on the arrow next to that category. For example, clicking on the arrow next to “Storage” will expand the storage section and display information about your Mac’s internal and external storage devices.

USING SYSTEM INFORMATION TO TROUBLESHOOT ISSUES

System Information can be a helpful tool when troubleshooting issues with your Mac. For example, if you’re having trouble with an external storage device, you can use System Information to verify that the device is properly connected to your computer. To do this, expand the “Storage” section and look for the external device under the “Bus Protocol” heading. If the device is not listed, make sure that it is properly connected to your computer. You can also use System Information to verify that your Mac’s hardware is functioning properly. To do this, expand the “Hardware” section and look for any devices that are not listed under the “Model” heading. These devices may be malfunctioning or not properly connected to your computer.

If you’re having trouble with a particular piece of software, you can use System Information to find out if there are any compatibility issues. To do this, expand the “Software” section and look for the application under the “Applications” heading. If the application is not listed, it may not be compatible with your version of macOS.

FINDING INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR MAC’S HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

System Information can also be a helpful tool when purchasing new hardware or software for your Mac. For example, if you’re looking for a new external storage device, you can use System Information to find out what types of devices are compatible with your computer. To do this, expand the “Storage” section and look for the “Bus Protocol” heading. This heading will list the types of devices that can be used with your computer.

If you’re looking for a new application, you can use System Information to find out what applications are compatible with your Mac. To do this, expand the “Software” section and look for the “Applications” heading. This heading will list the applications that are compatible with your computer.
