An HDMI port is a small input on a device, usually a TV, that allows you to connect an HDMI cable. This cable then carries both audio and video signals from the device to another, such as a soundbar or receiver. If your device does not have an HDMI port, you will not be able to use an HDMI cable with it. Instead, you will need to use a different type of cable, such as an AV (composite) cable or component cable.

Troubleshooting tips for when things go wrong with your HDMI connection

If you’re having trouble getting your HDMI connection to work, here are a few tips that might help:

  • Check all of the connections to make sure they are secure.
  • Try using a different HDMI cable.
  • If you’re using an HDMI switch or splitter, try removing it from the equation and connecting your devices directly to each other.
  • Restart your devices.
  • Update the drivers for your graphics card.
  • Make sure your HDMI cable is not damaged. If it is, try using a different cable.
