Beyond Siri, Alexa and Others: The Future of Voice Assistants and Chatbots with Advanced AI

Daniel Myers 4 min read

Gone are the days of fumbling for that clunky remote to change the channel. These days, all you have to say is, “Hey Google, turn on Netflix,” and it will do so. Because they easily integrate into our daily routines and make life easier, voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant have become indispensable in our daily lives.

However, as time goes on, the complexity of these digital companions also increases, raising the question of how far our trusty assistants will get in the future. Get ready because advanced AI is about to make voice assistants even smarter and more intuitive an AI voice over generator.

From Simple Commands to Seamless Conversations

For a better understanding of our ever-handy voice assistants, we need to travel back in time a little. The rise of AI has drastically changed how businesses operate. The days of solely relying on human personnel are gone. Today, chatbots, powered by complex language models like LaMDA from Google are taking the reins.

You can see them everywhere, and even in Canada, the familiar NOMI, an intelligent assistant in the RBC Mobile app and RBC Online Banking, is a prime example. These virtual assistants can answer your questions, troubleshoot problems, and even personalize your experience in a fraction of the time.

One sector that’s reaping the benefits of AI technology is the online casino industry. Studies have even revealed that in 2024, chatbots are responsible for handling over 42% of all customer inquiries in online casinos.

This widespread adoption stems from several factors. Firstly, chatbots offer 24/7 availability, ensuring players can get assistance whenever they need it, regardless of time or place. Secondly, chatbots can analyze vast amounts of player data to provide targeted support and suggest relevant bonuses.

For example, on many trusted online casino sites, a chatbot might suggest a new game based on what a player has liked before. Additionally, chatbots can be set up to handle many types of questions, from simple account tasks to detailed bonus queries. This frees up human customer service staff to deal with more complicated issues.

But this was only the beginning of what artificial intelligence was capable of. Fast forward to today, and simple prompts are quickly getting phased out. One of the most thrilling developments is the shift from strictly written commands to natural conversation.

Engaging in a back-and-forth dialogue with your voice assistant, where it understands the context of your requests and responds accordingly, once a fantasy, is gradually becoming a reality owing to Natural Language Processing (NLP), a subfield of artificial intelligence that allows machines to comprehend and manipulate human language.

Companies like Microsoft are integrating complex language models like Megatron-Turing NLG into their digital assistant, Cortana. With 530 billion parameters, over 5 times more than previous models – Megatron-Turing NLG can comprehend intricate sentence structures and follow the flow of conversation, making interactions with Cortana feel more natural.

No more grappling with awkward phrasing or getting annoyed by misunderstood commands. You’ll be able to ask follow-up questions, provide extra details, and have your assistant adapt accordingly.

Proactive Partners, Not Just Reacting to Requests

Our future voice assistants won’t just wait for instructions. They’ll become proactive partners, anticipating our needs and offering helpful suggestions.

This is where machine learning comes in. By analyzing your past interactions, calendar events, and even browsing history, AI assistants will be able to predict what you might need and offer assistance before you even ask.

Imagine your assistant reminding you to buy groceries because your fridge is running low on milk based on your previous shopping habits or suggesting a new book based on your recent readings.

There Are Concerns Though

The increasing integration of voice assistants into our daily lives raises important ethical problems. Privacy concerns around data collection and how it’s used are a major issue. Security vulnerabilities that could allow hackers to access personal information are another worry.

There’s also the question of AI bias. If a voice assistant learns from data that perpetuates stereotypes, it could lead to biased recommendations.

To address these concerns, companies are actively developing privacy-centric features and implementing robust security measures. Additionally, efforts are underway to de-bias AI models by using more diverse datasets for training.

A Multi-Sensory Experience

The future of voice assistants goes beyond just spoken interactions. They are set to become multi-sensory hubs, integrating with other technologies to offer a richer experience. You’ll be able to ask your helper, “Should I wear a jacket today?” and get not only a weather report but also visually presented outfit suggestions based on the prediction.

AI would need to comprehend your voice, visual preferences, and even your schedule. It may sound like science fiction, yet corporations like Google are developing this notion. In 2023, Google Labs unveiled Project Starline, a video calling system that uses real-time depth sensors for a 3D experience.

Picture having a conversation with your voice assistant and seeing a holographic projection providing extra information or completing tasks based on your requests; that’s the future we are headed for.
